Tye Thede has over three decades of service in academia and is an experienced leader with a demonstrated history of relationship building, project management, event coordination and execution, customer service, diplomacy, strategic planning and public speaking. In his current role at ASU, he is a part of ASU Learning Transformation Studios, assisting with the development of many broad-ranging initiatives.
Previously at ASU, he coordinated visits by dignitaries and distinguished guests at the invitation of the ASU President. These visits included higher education leaders, national and foreign heads of state as well as government and private industry leaders. He served on the front lines of diplomacy engagement, creating an environment for successful diplomacy and fostering understanding between visitors and the ASU community. This required a full understanding of the priorities of the ASU President’s office and executes complex assignments, special projects, and short-term assignments of a highly confidential, sensitive and urgent nature.
He has also supervised or coordinated high-profile events such as the 2004 US Presidential Debate, Clinton Global Initiative University, McCain Institute launch as well as thousands of university events including Homecoming, ASU Graduation and ASU Open Door with audiences from 5 to over 70,000.
At ASU, Thede also serves on the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration committee and is a founding member of the ASU Meeting and Event Coordinators and Associates employee organization. Thede has presented for numerous international conferences, including Association of College Unions-International (ACU-I), Academic Event Professionals (AEP) and the Protocol & Diplomacy International - Protocol Officer Association (PDI-POA).
Thede holds a BA and MPA from Arizona State University. He is a graduate of the Protocol School of Washington, as well as a member of PDI-POA.
