John Misner is the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship for Journalism’s Curator and Professor of Practice, Senior Advisor to the Dean, and Senior Advisor to the ASU Foundation. In addition to leading the Humphrey Fellowship program, he is involved in news innovation projects, works on a variety of the dean's special projects, and fundraises university-wide for projects and scholarships.
Misner is a veteran broadcast executive who led Phoenix’s highly-rated NBC affiliate for more than a decade and was Chief Operating Officer of Gannett’s combined Phoenix-market television, print and digital operation. Prior to moving to Arizona he had a variety of broadcast management roles in Atlanta, Fresno and Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Misner has deep connections to ASU. He served as president of the Cronkite Endowment Board of Trustees from 2009-2013, endowed a scholarship at the school, earned his Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree from the university, and is the father of two Sun Devil sons.
Misner also attended UCLA, and completed Northwestern University’s Management Development Seminar for Broadcasters. He is a two-time finalist for Gannett’s Manager of the Year Award, and recipient of the Cronkite School’s Dean’s Award for Outstanding Service.
Misner currently serves on the Arizona-Mexico Commission’s Board of Directors and on the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition’s Arizona Advisory Board. He is also past-chairman of the Arizona Broadcasters Association.
