Usman’s research interest is in settlement evolution, migration, sociopolitical and economic organization, and the nature of power relations in Africa prior to 1900. As an anthropologist in the interdisciplinary School of Social Transformation (SST) and African & African American Studies (AAAS), Usman’s research contributes to relevant knowledge about African experience and changes through time in regional and global contexts.
