Long Bio
Hello! My name is Dr. Hank Keithley (please call me 'Hank' or 'Dr Hank'!) and I hope to study ENG 102 with you in the near future. What follows is a brief introduction- my background, qualifications, and interests- so that you will have a sense of who I am. I am going to use bullet points, because writing about myself in a narrative is hard!
- I'm originally from Tucson, and I spent the first 18 years of my life there.
- I went to NAU for my undergraduate education. I have a BS in Cell Biology and a BA in English. About half-way through my time in Flagstaff, I committed to the idea of studying and teaching literature at the college/university level. Realistically, though, I had known that this was going to be my path for a long time.
- I did my MA (English Literature) and PhD (British Literature and the History of Science) at ASU. I am a specialist in the history of ideas and British Culture during the Renaissance and early eighteenth century. I have published two books (soon to be three!) and numerous articles on topics in these periods.
- Despite my specializations, I love teaching freshman composition. Working with student writers is an incredibly fulfilling experience, because I get to help people better understand the ideas that they find important in their own lives. Sharing in this experience also helps me to better understand myself as an individual and as an instructor.
- I would love to hear from you! Additional information about me can be found in my vita. Please reach out if you have any questions.
