Over the past 28 years at Arizona State University, Associate Professor Wendy Hultsman has been very involved in the development of the parks and recreation management majors ont the West campus and the Downtown Phoenix campus. The area where she has had the most impact is in the creation of special event management education at ASU. Hultsman has principled the development of both a minor and an 18 credit academic Certificate of Special Event Management. She is proud to describe herself as someone who avidly goes beyond the four-by-two teacher (four walls of the classroom and two covers of a book!). Her special event management students have been proud producers of the city of Glendale's Sinister Sinema (haunted house), creators of the ASU International Children's village that is part of the city of Phoenix APS Fiesta of Light Parade's Friday night festivities, and ASU @ the Zoo. To her way of thinking...you must be involved in the production of events to truly understand them. And these events allow students to work positively impact valley residents quality of life. A win-win for all involved!
