Ira A Fulton Engineering
Jesús Chávez is a proud first-generation college graduate and higher education professional who attributes this achievement to the support of his family and mentors. He began his career with ASU as an undergraduate student in Fall 2008 and since then has developed an in-depth knowledge of the university and its commitment to individual and community success. He believes in leveraging his knowledge and experience from ASU, as well as within higher education to help students and communities find gainful success.
Jesús currently serves as the Coordinator Senior for the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering with an emphasis on Student Success and Engagement. He has previously served as the Coordinator of Student Success and Engagement for two years and then as an Academic Success Advisor for three years. His responsibilities included coordination of events and initiatives to facilitate student success/engagement and improve retention/degree completion rates specifically at the Polytechnic Campus. These goals were achieved through strategic decision making and by creating professional relationships with university partners of all levels to enable impactful collaborations.
In that time, he also supported several initiatives and programs to help empower the Fulton Schools of Engineering and the Polytechnic Campus community to advance efforts toward Inclusive Excellence. Key experiences include becoming a founding member of the Poly Sol Faculty and Staff Work group to support the First Generation and Latinx communities of the Polytechnic campus; hosting multiple bilingual first generation new student orientation sessions; serving on the Transfer student experience advising committee; working as a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for the Engineering Industry Advisory Board; and supporting the Hispanic Organization of Latinx Awareness (HOLA) and the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) student organizations as the staff advisor.
Previously, Jesús had the opportunity to serve the Office of Inclusive Excellence, a unit within the Office of the Executive Vice President and University Provost at Arizona State University. In this role, Jesús worked to support and advance the initiatives of specially designated projects and programs to maximize representation and amplify impact across the university and its communities.
Jesús believes that the efficacy in promoting the ASU Charter will be grounded in a shared value for giving light to the many communities, identities, and experiences that we are privileged to connect with here at ASU. He is excited to support a culture of student success via the Fulton Difference, empowered by the ASU Charter.
