Alejandra Enriquez Gates is the Community Manager and Project Liaison for the Global Futures Education Alliance (GFEA), where she leads the development of strategic initiatives and cultivates community-based and institutional partnerships that advance sustainability education. In this role, she works across sectors to strengthen collaboration, expand impact, and support innovative approaches to international and futures-focused learning. Since 2022, she has also been actively involved with the RCE Greater Phoenix, a Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development, acknowledged by UNESCO, that advances sustainability education worldwide.
Previously, Alejandra served as Program Director at the Center for Advanced Studies in Global Education at Arizona State University’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College. She led international professional development and strategic partnership initiatives, directing multiple cohorts of the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program (Fulbright DAI) and the International Leaders in Education Program. Her work also included partnering with school districts to support Saudi Arabian educators through the Building Leadership for Change Through School Immersion Program, fostering leadership development, cross-cultural exchange, and school-based collaboration.
Her background includes serving as Program Director at the Center for Advanced Studies in Global Education, where she supported international initiatives in professional development and strategic partnerships. Her experience includes directing several Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program (Fulbright DAI) and International Leaders in Education Program cohorts. Her work includes managing partnerships with school districts for the Building Leadership for Change Through School Immersion Program.
Alejandra has led impactful international education initiatives, including the USAID–India Support for Teacher Education Program (In-STEP) and the Next Generation Leaders Program (NGL-Palestine). Her leadership has centered on fostering cross-border collaboration, strengthening educator capacity, and advancing culturally responsive practices in diverse educational contexts.
Earlier in her career, she served as Director of Conexiones, a Migrant Education Student Program, where she supported access and success for underserved student populations. She also guided the strategic partnership between Arizona State University and Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico, expanding institutional collaboration and global engagement efforts.
In Mexico, Alejandra held senior leadership roles within the Secretariat of Education and Culture for the state of Sonora, serving as State Director of English Language Programs for elementary schools and as Director of the Education Sonora–Arizona Institute. In these capacities, she advanced binational collaboration, language education initiatives, and cross-border educational partnerships.
She recently earned a Certificate in Environmental Education, further strengthening her engagement in sustainability and climate-responsive learning initiatives. Her research interests focus on international education, multiculturalism, cultural proficiency, educational technology, and sustainability education.
