John Ball joined ASU in 2011. He brings a rich and diverse academic background to his work in instructional design. He holds an M.Ed. in Educational Technology from Arizona State University, an M.Ed. in TESOL from Oklahoma City University, and a B.A. in English Literature from Oklahoma State University.
He is the Instructional Designer Principal for Global Outreach and Extended Education at Arizona State University, where he leads initiatives within the program, including the ITSI Program, professional credentialing programs and other online initiatives. In this role, John collaborates with faculty from multiple countries to develop semiconductor and other engineering credentialing programs tailored to the various institutional contexts.
From January 2023 to October 2024, he served as Online Learning Manager at Adaptive and Personalized Learning Solutions, where he led research on adaptive learning trends, improved platform efficacy, and established robust testing systems.
Previously, Mr. Ball was a Senior Instructional Designer and Adaptive Learning Consultant for CogBooks and ASU, where he developed adaptive curriculum models and collaborated with subject matter experts to standardize course design. From 2014 to 2020, he worked with Pearson Learning Design Solutions, designing academic courses across multiple learning management systems for higher education institutions.
His teaching experience includes roles with the American English and Culture Program at ASU and ESL Services at the University of Texas at Austin, where he taught English as a Second Language (ESL), trained educators in educational technology, and developed academic content. He also spent over seven years in Mexico, working as an instructor at ITESM Campus Colima and as an academic consultant for the University of the Americas in Mexico City.
Mr. Ball has presented at conferences including TESOL in Portland, Oregon, sharing insights on innovation in education. With a deep commitment to integrating technology into learning, he is recognized as a leader in higher education instructional design.
