Linda Kim

Linda J. Kim is the Assistant Dean for Career-Track Faculty Success and Teaching Excellence at New College. In this role, she leads initiatives that strengthen the development, recognition, and advancement of career-track faculty.

Kim is a Teaching Professor of Sociology in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SSBS). Kim's academic interests focus on the dynamics between culture and structure in society and the political economy of media. She has published in the areas of transnational social movements and popular culture. She regularly teaches Social Change, Cultural Diversity, and Sociology of Gender, with attention to the intersections of gender/sexuality/race/class inequalities and global social change.

Prior to joining the college leadership team, she served as SSBS Associate Director for Career-Track Faculty Affairs (2023-2026), New College Dean's Leadership and Innovation Fellow (2023-2025), SSBS Internship Director (2022), and a Faculty Fellow for the Barrett Honors College (2018-2019). As a Dean's Leadership and Innovation Fellow, she developed a proposal to bring BA programs into the Arizona prisons. She continues to coordinate non-credit academic programs at Perryville Prison to help cultivate and sustain a learning community for incarcerated women and prospective students.
