Hello! My name is Tamar Kaplan and I am a Faculty Associate in the ASU School of Social Work. I grew up in Phoenix and earned my bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Family Studies and Human Development from the University of Arizona. I then earned my MSW from ASU's School of Social Work Tucson Campus. During my time in the program, I had the opportunity to work for both the Center for Applied Behavioral Health Policy as well as the Center for Child Well-Being.
At the start of my social work career I worked as a crisis clinician, providing stabilization services to children and adolescents who had been hospitalized due to suicidal ideation or suicide attempts. I then transitioned into ongoing therapy where I worked with children and families to address a variety of presenting concerns including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, trauma, ADHD, and adjustment difficulties related to placement in foster care and juvenile detention.
I am excited to be back in the ASU School of Social Work community teaching the next generation of social workers!
