Sierra Ochoa’s focus is in building strong and mutually beneficial community partnerships to bring art and people together in a space where people of the global majority can see themselves represented in museum spaces. With experience educating all ages in a museum setting, Ochoa has led the ASUAM Learning & Co-Creation department in creating interpretation and public programs that break down the four walls of traditional museum pedagogy to explore all types of creativity, meaning-making and storytelling. Previously, she worked at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix as the Public Programs Manager, planning cultural programming and partnering with various local cultural community groups across the Valley. At ASUAM, Sierra builds on this experience to deepen the relationships that she has established with the surrounding community and provide broader access to world-class academic art experiences offered by Arizona State University. Additionally, her experience at the Maricopa County Department of Public Health provides a unique multidisciplinary perspective that enriches her work in the arts with insight into the broader issues our community faces. Sierra Ochoa holds a master's in Learning Science from ASU and a yellow and green belt in Lean Six Sigma. She currently serves as a commissioner on the Phoenix Arts & Culture Commission and is dedicated to bringing enriching public art and engaging public programming to audiences of all ages and backgrounds in the Phoenix metro area.
