Saleem Suzah Jassim is an Iraqi-American writer and researcher who has lived in the state of Arizona since 2009. His research interests are in justice studies, politics, religious studies, Middle Eastern Studies, and cultural studies. Jassim holds a master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Arizona State University 2016 (Capstone title: The Representation of hijab [Muslim woman’s headscarf] in the Homeland TV Series: Signification, Ideology, and Hybridity) after he got his bachelor's degree in Applied Science / Digital Media from the same university 2015. He is currently a PhD student in the Justice Studies program at ASU and teaching associate at the School of Social Transformation at the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at Arizona State University.
Jassim has been featured on several Arab TV channels to speak about the political situations in the Middle East, specifically the rise of Islamism and extremism in Iraq and the Arab States. He also participated in several research conferences and workshops. He has published hundreds of Op-Ed essays in several well-known newspapers and websites in the Arab region. He has also translated many English articles into Arabic for Arabic newspapers. His translation includes a philosophical book titled Introducing Modernism, printed in late 2016 in Italy and available in the Arab States. He translated Kanan Makiya’s English novel The Rock: A Tale of Seventh-Century Jerusalem into Arabic. Published in October 2022.
Before being accepted into the Justice Studies PhD program, Jassim worked as a substitute teacher for K12 in Arizona for almost 2 years. He also worked as a Human Services Specialist II at the Arizona Department of Economic Security / Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) for 2 years before that.
