My taste in art is an inventive recreation of
reality. The purpose of which is communicating some meaningful aspect
of what it means to be human and how we can and do perceive the world
around us. I consider myself a traditional artist. My primary initial
motivation in creating prints or paintings is a visual interest in the
subject and the light that reveals it. Of equal importance is the
choosing and utilization of the most interesting components of the
language of drawing and painting for the subject to have a unique and
stimulating visual impact. The structure of my work allows me to use
realism as a foundation with elements of abstraction and invention as
strong contributors to the finished work. I have little specific
interest in narrative or stories. Instead, I want the language of
sight and mark making to encourage a sense of visual poetry in the
finished work.
