Jennifer Hackney is an assistant professor in the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences at Arizona State University. She earned a bachelor's degree in biology in 1999 and a master's degree in biology in 2001, both from Fort Hays State University. She received her doctorate in molecular biology and biochemistry from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2008 followed by four years as a postdoctoral research associate in the lab of Peter Cherbas at Indiana University.
- Ph.D. Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, University of Missouri-Kansas City 2008
- M.S. Biology, Fort Hays State University 2001
- B.S.Biology, Fort Hays State University 1999
Dr. Hackney’s scholarly interests include understanding how organisms respond to injury and she is particularly interested in exploring the systemic effects of signals produced following localized tissue damage. To this end, she uses the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster , as a model to address three primary aims: (1) dissection of the systemic injury response pathway using genomic and genetic strategies, (2) characterization of neuroendocrine-immune interactions that contribute to the injury response, and (3) exploration of effects of injury on development. Understanding the systemic responses to localized tissue damage will contribute to a basic understanding of how organisms respond to injury and may shed light on various disease states associated with chronic inflammation and severe injury.
