Anna Zischkau

Currently an Academic Success Coordinator, Senior (Curriculum + Faculty Connections) for Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University, I am passionate about supporting student success through approaches that integrate academic, professional, and personal interests and commitments. I build collaborative relationships with students to help guide them towards goal identification and attainment. I also work as a liaison to Faculty across the Institute and within the School of Art. My role as a Faculty liaison involves creating and sustaining spaces for collective discussion, discernment, and action concerning student learning and curriculum modification.

My educational background in Music Therapy and Higher Education Counseling/Student Affairs informs my practice and work with students. My exposure to the fine arts acts as a lens from which I view the student experience, and I enjoy assisting students in identifying the necessary steps to navigate successful pathways as artists and designers. The relationship building skills I crafted during my graduate counseling program help me to connect with students and establish creative cooperative relationships.

I am an active member in the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) as well as the Council for Academic Advisors (CAA) - ASU's local advising organization. I have presented at local, regional, and national conferences on advising topics such as Holistic Advising for Arts and Design Students, Advisors as Recruiters, Advisor Self-Care and Management of Stress, Communication Strategies for Collaboration and Rapport Building, Creativity, Advising the Right-Brained Student, and Advisors as Holders of Stories. Furthermore, I am a believer in/advocate for the necessity of mentorship, evidenced by my participation in ASU's Commission for the Status of Women (CSW) mentoring program.

My hobbies include hiking, gardening, and playing my saxophone.
