Miriam’s journey at ASU started in 2013 as an undergraduate student in the Herberger Institute of Design and the Arts. She studied painting there and later added a concurrent degree in Spanish Literature from The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. As an undergraduate, she worked as a Research Assistant for the School of Social Work and in the America Reads Program, helping third graders with their reading and writing comprehension.
In 2017, knowing she loved studying and helping students learn, she became a Teaching Associate and graduate student, pursuing her master’s and PhD degrees at SILC. For the next six years, she taught Spanish and Portuguese courses at ASU, from the beginning level to the content and literary courses offered in her program. Her passion for student success became one of the main motivators for becoming an Academic Success Advisor at The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in the First-Year Student Hub in 2023. There, she advised students and taught a first-year seminar before transitioning them to their respective units within the College. Miriam also helped orient and register transfer students for classes prior to their transition to the academic units.
She currently serves as the Academic Success Advisor for the Department of Physics at TCLAS. She is also a Spanish adjunct professor and tutor at Scottsdale Community College. She is an avid advocate for her students and loves offering a holistic approach where any student goal path is welcome and nurtured.
