Philip Carrano serves as the Senior Director of Finance and Human Resources within the Learning Enterprise at Arizona State University, where he leads efforts to ensure financial integrity, operational excellence, and a thriving organizational culture. Guided by ASU’s commitment to universal access to learning, Philip works to align people, processes, and resources in ways that expand opportunity and sustain innovation.
He oversees the Learning Enterprise’s financial portfolio, managing a diverse array of funding sources—including learner revenues, tuition, grants, and philanthropic contributions—to support ASU’s mission of lifelong learning. Philip partners with leaders across the enterprise to deliver strategic financial insights and implement systems that promote both agility and long-term sustainability.
At the heart of his leadership is a belief that operational systems and human potential are deeply interconnected. Through transparent, data-informed approaches to budgeting, hiring, and professional growth, he fosters a culture that empowers teams and drives collective success.
Philip holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Italian from Arizona State University. His work reflects a deep belief in higher education as a transformative force—one that thrives when access, excellence, and innovation move forward in tandem. When he’s not advancing the mission of the Learning Enterprise, you can often find him on the sidelines supporting his Sun Devils as part of ASU Athletics’ game operations teams for football and basketball.
