I've been teaching philosophy at ASU since 2013, first as a TA, then as instructor of record since 2018. I've been a student of philosophy since 2001 and, after a winding path in and out of academia, I completed my Ph.D. in philosophy in 2023.
I have worked in many industries and fields outside of academia, including automotive glass manufacturing, food services, retail management, photographic processing, mortuary services, professional portrait and event photography, aluminum casting, and as a K-12 substitute teacher. These experience shaped how I understand philosophy both as an academic and as a normal person.
My hobbies include pinball machine restoration and repair (and playing them too!), hiking, swimming, watching films, and board / TCG gaming.
Ph. D. in Philosophy, Arizona State University
M.A. in Philosophy, Arizona State University
B.A. in Philosophy (minor in Religious Studies), University of Saint Francis
My areas of specialization include social epistemology, philosophy of cognitive science, and philosophy of mind. In my research, I primarily focus on the intersection of applied social epistemology and models of bounded rationality as they are informed by heuristics and biases programs from cognitive science. For instance, my dissertation research examines the roles that cognitive biases play in cases of peer disagreement. I am also pursuing research into empirical studies on debiasing techniques to better inform discussions on testimonial injustice. The overall plan for my research is to bring the concept of bounded rationality into applied philosophy so that it may complement idealized yet often impractical research programs in formal epistemology and rational choice theory. By doing so, we may better understand how actual beliefs operate in and affect our world.
In addition to my main research areas, I am also interested in metaphysical questions surrounding consciousness, multi-modal studies on perception, predictive coding and mental representation, neuroscientific explanations of voluntarism, and the nature time - both as experienced and theoretical.
