Antonia Papandreou-Suppappola is a professor in the School of Electrical, Computer and Electrical Engineering. Her research interests are in the areas of time-varying and statistical signal processing with contributions to waveform agile sensing, Bayesian non-parametric learning, radar tracking, integrated sensing and communications, structural health monitoring, and biomedical and genomic signal processing. Her research work has been funded by AFOSR, ARO, DARPA, NSF, NASA, NIH, ONR and DTRA.
She received the Joseph C. Palais Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award, 2024 (recognizes faculty members who excel in research, teaching, and service). She was elected Fellow of the IEEE in 2008, and she received the 2020 IEEE Region 6 Affinity Group Individual award for Women in Engineering, the 2020 IEEE Phoenix Section Outstanding Contribution to Promoting Women in Engineering award, the 2010 Bob Owens Memorial Best Paper Award, the 2003 IEEE Phoenix Section Outstanding Faculty for Research award, and the 2002 NSF CAREER award. She also received the Teaching Excellence Award of the Top 5% of Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering Teachers (2009, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023), Fulton Exemplar faculty award (2014), and Fulton School of Engineering award (2013).
She was elected Fellow of the IEEE in 2013. Within the IEEE Signal Processing Society, she is currently a member of the IEEE SPS Best Paper Award Review Committee and the Signal Processing Theory and Methods technical committee . She was a member of the Awards Board (2022-2025), chair of the Women in Signal Processing committee (2014-2017), member-at-large in the Board of Governors (2010-2012), treasurer Conference Board (2004-2006), member of the Signal Processing Theory and Methods technical committee and chair of the IEEE Communications and Signal Processing Phoenix Chapter (1999-2001). She served as associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing (2005–2009) and IEEE Signal Processing Letters (2003–2005), and guest editor of IEEE Signal Processing Magazine (2009) and IEEE Journal on Selected Topics in Signal Processing (inaugural issue, 2007). She participated in numerous IEEE conferences as Special Sessions chair, Technical Area chair, Publicity co-chair, North-American Liaison, and member of Technical Review and Technical Program committees.
