Rebecca Blatt

As senior associate dean, Rebecca Blatt directs master's program recruitment, curriculum and retention for the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. She also oversees some of the school's signature capstone programs, including Cronkite News, Carnegie-Knight News21 and the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism, and leads a variety of special initiatives.

Prior to joining the school's leadership team in 2017, Blatt was the director of the Cronkite News Digital Production Bureau, where she led a team of students who produced and managed digital content for Cronkite News, the news division of Arizona PBS. She guided undergraduate and graduate students in multimedia storytelling, social media, data visualization, audience engagement, cross-platform collaboration and newsroom leadership.

From March 2014 to May 2016, Blatt directed the Cronkite Public Insight Network Bureau, which was awarded the prestigious ASU President’s Award for Innovation under her leadership. In the PIN Bureau, Blatt led advanced journalism students in providing services to news organizations across the country seeking to connect with diverse audiences and expand community engagement. The curriculum she developed for PIN students blends reporting, innovation, community engagement and entrepreneurship, and continues to prepare students for the rapidly evolving journalism industry.

Blatt previously worked in public radio at NPR, North Carolina Public Radio and, most recently, WAMU 88.5 FM in Washington, D.C.

As senior news editor at WAMU, Blatt produced and edited in-depth series, documentaries and special event coverage. Her work received numerous honors from organizations including the Radio Television Digital News Association, the Education Writers Association, the Journalism Center on Children and Families, and the New York Festivals Radio Awards.

Blatt earned a master of business administration from The American University’s Kogod School of Business and a master of arts in mass communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
