Rebecca Blatt

As senior associate dean, Rebecca Blatt oversees all career-track faculty at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, including recruitment, professional development, promotion and support. She also leads the school's AI strategy, serves as its Academic Integrity Officer and manages the Carnegie-Knight News21 Initiative.

Blatt joined the Cronkite School leadership team as an assistant dean in 2017. Her portfolio has evolved over time, including experience directing master's programs, capstone experiences, strategic communications, online programs and student services.

Blatt came to ASU in 2014 as a professor of practice and founding director of the Cronkite Public Insight Network Bureau, which was awarded the prestigious ASU President’s Award for Innovation under her leadership. She taught advanced undergraduate and graduate students in multimedia storytelling, social media, data visualization, audience engagement, cross-platform collaboration and newsroom leadership.

Blatt previously worked in public radio at NPR, North Carolina Public Radio and, most recently, WAMU 88.5 FM in Washington, D.C.

As senior news editor at WAMU, Blatt produced and edited in-depth series, documentaries and special event coverage. Her work received numerous honors from organizations including the Radio Television Digital News Association, the Education Writers Association, the Journalism Center on Children and Families, and the New York Festivals Radio Awards.

Blatt earned a master of business administration from The American University’s Kogod School of Business and a master of arts in mass communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
