Jose A. Cobas is an Emeritus Professor in the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics at Arizona State University.
Cobas' book titled "How the U.S. Racializes Latinos and Latin Americans: White Hegemomy and Its Consequences," was released in March, 2009 by Paradigm Press. Up until recently, members of Congress, major newspapers, and entrepreneurs in the United States openly racialized Latinos and Latin Americans, which provided an ideology that justified armed invasions of sovereign nations, dispossession of land, and economic exploitation. Noted Latin American, Latino, and U.S. social scientists address the extent and costs of U.S. hegemony. A second book, "Guardians of Racialization," addresses the processes utilized by the dominant racial system to maintain the racialization of Latinos.
His new project addresses the issue of how uncertainty is used as a tool of racial oppression.
Ph.D. University of Texas-Austin 1975
