Ryan Vann provides leadership and direction for Pre-Health Advising within the College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University. In this role, he oversees advising operations, strategic programming, and staff development to enhance the student experience and strengthen preparation for professional school admissions.
His work centers on helping Pre-Health students explore career paths, gain meaningful experience, and connect with mentoring and learning opportunities that build confidence and readiness for graduate and professional programs.
Key initiatives under his direction include:
- Summer Health Institute (SHI): A two-week enrichment program bringing high school juniors to ASU to explore healthcare careers. Ryan began co-coordinating SHI in 2023 and assumed full leadership in 2024, expanding participation and leading a 10-member staff team.
- Pre-Health Mentoring Program: Began coordinating in 2023 to connect undergraduate students with graduate and professional mentors across health disciplines.
- Pre-Health Bootcamp: Founded in 2023 as a hands-on event featuring healthcare professionals, ASU alumni, and medical students.
- PA Pathways Open House: Introduced in 2025 to connect Physician Assistant programs and students through admissions panels, group advising, and networking.
Ryan also collaborates with faculty, student organizations, and external partners to create experiential learning opportunities. He partnered with CHS Marketing to launch a comprehensive Pre-Health webpage, an extension of the ASU Pre-Health site that provides CHS-specific advising resources and connects students with ASU Health initiatives.
Before becoming Assistant Director in 2022, Ryan served in multiple advising and leadership roles within ASU’s College of Health Solutions. He joined the college in 2014 as an Academic Success Advising Specialist, was promoted to Coordinator in 2017, and later to Senior Coordinator in 2021. Earlier in his career, he worked in enrollment and academic advising beginning in 2009, gaining broad experience supporting students in Health Sciences, Medical Studies, and other health-related majors.
Ryan has also served as Downtown Vice President of the Council of Academic Advisors, a member of the Residency Appeals Committee, and a contributor to the CHS Staff Success Council. He holds ASU’s Global Advocacy Certificate and was honored with the Council of Academic Advisors’ Experienced Advisor of the Year Award (2019).
With over a decade of service at ASU, Ryan is committed to guiding students toward purposeful academic pathways and impactful careers in healthcare.
