Michael Moffett
Michael H. Moffett is an associate professor of finance and holds the Continental Grain Professorship in Finance at Thunderbird School of Global Management. He also is the academic director of the school’s Thunderbird International Consortia, partnership programs among globally focused companies in Thunderbird Executive Education. A three-time recipient of Thunderbird’s Outstanding Professor Award, Michael’s areas of expertise include international financial management and the financial management issues unique to the oil and gas industry. He is well known for his knowledge on the financial management of multinational firms, with a focus on cash flow and capital requirements for effective strategy execution, the valuation of subsidiaries, repatriation of profits, and management of financial risk.
He is the co-author of "The Global Oil and Gas Industry: Management, Strategy and Finance" with Andrew Inkpen (2011), in addition to coauthoring a number of books on international finance, international financial management, and international business. His text, "Multinational Business Finance," co-authored with Arthur Stonehill and David Eiteman, is in its 13th edition. For more than two decades it has been broadly considered the market leader in its field and is used by universities in more than 30 countries.
Moffett has authored more than 40 case studies on a variety of global business topics, and his writings have appeared in the industry’s leading publications, including: Journal of Applied Corporate Finance, Journal of International Financial Management and Accounting, Journal of International Money and Finance, Contemporary Policy Issues, Brookings Discussion Papers in Economics, and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis.
Prior to joining the Thunderbird faculty in 1994, Moffett was an associate professor at Oregon State University, and has served as a visiting professor at a multitude of universities around the world including the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, the University of Hawaii, Manoa, the Bergen Institute (Norway), the Aarhus School of Business (Denmark), the International Centre for Private Enterprises (Ljubljana, Slovenia), the Indian School of Business (Hyderabad, India), and the University of Colorado, Boulder. He also is a former research fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
His expertise has been tapped by more than 50 multinational firms in North and South America, Europe and Asia, and during the past 20+ years he has taught and consulted in more than 25 countries.
