Kimlisa Duchicela

Professor Kimlisa Salazar Duchicela is an instructor in ASU’s Faculty of Leadership & Integrative Studies, an innovative community of faculty and staff who provide an extraordinary education to an extraordinarily diverse and inclusive student body. They currently serve more than 6,000 students in sixteen graduate and undergraduate programs on three Phoenix Valley campuses, online, with partners throughout Arizona, and in programs throughout the world. They collaborate with community colleges, government, non-profit and private organizations to extend educational opportunities to everyone everywhere.

Professor Salazar Duchicela started teaching at ASU in 2014 and developed the Gaming History and Gaming Culture course. She is an expert in online course development and believes strongly in courses that are engaging and interactive. In her career, she has trained other faculty and institutions on how to incorporate technology into the educational process and how to make online meaningful. She continually trains to maintain currency in the online modality. She is an interdisciplinarian with broad areas of expertise including History, Mexican-American Studies, Latin American Studies, Gaming Culture, International Business, US-Latin American Relations, and Educational Technology. Every year 100s of ASU students experience courses she has designed. She holds an AA from San Diego City College, BA in International Business, MA in Latin American Studies both from San Diego State University, and is PHD-ABD from University of New Mexico in History. She is currently finishing her certification in Project Management. Kimlisa is the recipient of various online teaching awards and importantly, a proud Veteran of the US Navy.

Today, the Faculty of Leadership & Integrative Studies offers baccalaureate degrees in partnerships with other institutions across Arizona. They offer a rich array of faculty-led study abroad programs, taking students to work in Guatemalan medical clinics, study Maya indigenous leadership in Belize, prepare for the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic, intern with professional organizations in Beijing, Prague, Vietnam, New Zealand and Dublin, and enjoy other adventures in Spain, Cuba, the Baltics, Peru and Bolivia. They offer more Continuing and Professional Education courses than any other unit at ASU—more than 100 courses—including non-credit certificates in project management, agile project management and leadership skills.
