Ming Zhao

My research interests are in experimental computer systems, including cloud, big-data, and high-performance computing systems as well as operating systems and storage systems in general. I am also highly interested in the cross-disciplinary studies that bridge systems research with other domains, and I have worked with applications from computational physics and chemistry, each sciences, biomedicine, neuroscience, etc.

My research efforts are targeted to generate both fundamental scientific values and practical societal impacts. I have published over 50 peer-reviewed articles on premiere computer systems conferences and journals, which have been cited more than 1500 times. My research outcomes have also been adopted by several production systems in the industry. My research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, and industry companies.

I have received the National Science Foundation CAREER award, the ASEE Air Force Summer Faculty Fellowship, VMware Faculty Award, Excellence in Mentoring award, Excellence in Research award, and Best Paper award of the International Conference on Autonomic Computing. My PhD students have received the McKnight Doctoral Fellowship, the ASEE Air Force Summer Student Fellowship, and the VMware graduate fellowship.
