From a young age, I was driven to help others and make a meaningful impact in my community. I devoted much of my youth to the fire service in and around my hometown, which eventually led me to expand my commitment beyond my neighborhood and serve on the battlefield following the events of September 11th. This experience profoundly shaped the person I am today.
Academically, my early years were challenging. Growing up with significant dyslexia in a school district unequipped to support my learning needs, I struggled in traditional educational settings. Despite these challenges, I never gave up on achieving what I set my mind to. I focused on gaining real-world experience and developing practical knowledge. I later discovered that my intelligence lay in how I approached learning differently—a realization that became clear when I enrolled at Arizona State University at age 40.
After returning from military service, I completed my Associate’s Degree and married my wife, with whom I now raise three active and amazing boys. I continued my career in the fire service and currently serve as a professional firefighter with the City of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Leadership has been a constant throughout my service, and the fire department has provided both stability and purpose.
My schedule allowed me the flexibility to explore new opportunities, and I began printing fire department logos for friends. I discovered a passion for visual communication and design, despite not being a traditional artist. This led me to the Graphic Information Technology program at Arizona State University. I recognized it as the perfect fit to challenge myself academically and professionally, using my remaining GI Bill benefits to pursue my degree.
Returning to the classroom after many years was difficult, but with determination and support, I adapted and excelled. My first class ended with a B, and since then, I have maintained an A average. I am a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society and have been initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. My goal is to continue on this path and graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree, proving to myself and my family that perseverance and dedication can overcome any obstacle.

I have devoted my life to service through community involvement, volunteerism, and military service. My commitment began in the Boy Scouts, where I participated in community improvement projects, and continued as a volunteer firefighter for 11 years. I then served four years in the United States Marine Corps, completing two combat tours in Iraq. After returning home, I earned my Associate’s Degree and pursued a career as a professional firefighter with the City of Allentown, Pennsylvania.
