JoAnn C. Williams is a research professor in the School of Molecular Sciences at Arizona State University. She has concentrated her research career on studying the conversion of light into chemical energy in photosynthesis and has developed the bacterial reaction center as an experimental system for probing the requirements for oxidation reactions. Her interest in interdisciplinary graduate education has led to curriculum development in several training programs. She received her B.S. from the University of Puget Sound and her Ph.D. in Biology from the University of California, San Diego. After post-doctoral work at the Medical Research Council in Cambridge, England and at E. I du Pont de Nemours & Co. in Wilmington, Delaware, she joined the Center for the Study of Early Events in Photosynthesis (now the Center for Bioenergy and Photosynthesis) at ASU in 1989.
