Norma Lopez

Norma Lopez works at Arizona State University, where she teaches Spanish Literature, Culture, and Language. She is an instructor and the assistant coordinator for the Heritage Language Program. She earned both her PhD and master’s degrees at ASU, and holds a BA in Education with emphasis on Curriculum design, and Community Education from University in Bolivia.

She was born and raised in Bolivia and have lived in the United States since 1999. She has been committed to the educational field for more than thirty years. During her academic and professional formation, education and teaching have been her passions.

She pursues a M. A. degree in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in Bilingual Education, a second M. A. in Spanish Literature and Culture, and finally a Ph.D. degree in Spanish Literature. Her main interest in literature is the cultural, political and social dimensions of subordination. In addition to her experience in education with different age levels in the educational system from kindergarten to university and with diverse populations, she spent one year in China, working as a full-time Spanish professor, implementing the International Dual Degree Program between Northeastern University in Shenyang and Arizona State University in Tempe.

Her teaching experience includes different levels of Spanish language courses for L2 and heritage language learners in hybrid and online formats. She was a recipient of the 2022-2023 Outstanding Instructor Award.
