Dr. Bobbie Legg’s clinical work focuses on the treatment of child and adolescent survivors of childhood trauma and abuse. Dr. Legg has served as the Clinical Director for multiple residential treatment programs; she specializes in using neuroscience informed psychotherapy for trauma recovery. Training and practices include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Addictions Recovery, Family Therapy, Play Therapy, Neuroscience, Cross-cultural Therapy, Psychodynamic Understandings, and Expressive Therapies including Sand Tray, Writing Therapy, and Art. In addition, Dr. Legg is a state and national speaker on Trauma Treatment, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Adolescent Treatment, Suicide Prevention and Adolescent Self-Expression.
Dr. Legg received Social Work degrees as a BSW, MSW, and PhD from Eastern Mennonite University, The Catholic University of America, and The Clinical Social Work Institute. Her training also includes completion of the Post-Graduate Trauma Treatment Program at the University of Maryland. Dr. Legg’s research includes an ethnographic study of adolescent online social networking profiles. She is also recognized as a Diplomate by the Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. Dr. Legg has served as an expert witness for state and federal cases involving the impact of childhood trauma, traumatic events and trauma recovery.
Dr Legg’s clinical practice has included working in sub-saharan Africa, South Asia, and South America. Dr. Legg’s work has included living and working with indigenous communities and working with youth in foster care and families facing homelessness and adverse circumstances in American cities. In her free time, she loves seeking out opportunities to grow and explore. Her personal interests blend yoga, outdoor adventure, the creative arts and adventure travel.
