Buyung "Datu" Agusdinata

Buyung Agusdinata is an associate professor in the School of Sustainability. Working together with subject-matter experts, he develops and applies system approaches and tools to understand the dynamic behaviors of complex systems in order to inform decision-making in addressing sustainability issues in domains such as energy, transportation, critical minerals, and sustainable development. 

His previous assignment was as an associate research scientist at Purdue University before joining Northern Illinois University as a faculty member. He taught courses on the topic of system-of-systems, decision analysis, green engineering and industrial ecology, future thinking and strategies, system dynamics for sustainability, and sustainable development in action.

He is the recipient of the 2011 International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Fellowship to advance the state of practice of systems thinking and perspective. He has published in various journals including Resources Policy, Environmental Research Letters, Extractive Industries and Society, Simulation & Gaming, Journal of Cleaner Production, Natural Hazards, International Journal of Applied Earth Observation and Geoinformation, Environment, Development & Sustainability, and Environmental Science and Technology.
