Richard Reynolds received a master’s degree in mathematics from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, and a doctorate in pure mathematics from New Mexico State University. His dissertation had a new convergence theorem for gauge integrable vector-valued functions. Reynolds spent one year teaching at Saint Cloud State University in Minnesota before coming to Arizona State University in 2000. He has taught a wide range of classes with his main teaching interests being Differential Equations and the Calculus for Engineers sequence.

My dissertation "The Generalized McShane Integral for Vector-Valued Functions." continued the work of R. Gordon, J. Mendoza and D.H. Fremlin, who developed a vector-valued McShane integral. The main result is a Vitali-like convergence theorem giving sufficient conditions for mean convergence of a sequence of functions. Other results include giving sufficient conditions for a sequence of functions to be uniformly gauge integrable; and showing that the space of all (vector-valued) McShane integrable functions (from a fixed measure space to a fixed Banach space) is a Barrelled space. Barralledness is a nice property for a vector space to have since the Uniform Boundedness Principle, the Open Mapping Theorem and the Closed Graph Theorem are all applicable.
