Hello:
My name is George Hood and I am a Christian. I have already given you the two most important bits of information about me, that is, my name and some idea of who I am and who I am constantly striving to be.
I was born in San Francisco but my values align more closely with traditional American values than with current California culture. As a consequence, I have moved to and I am presently living in Gilbert, AZ where I have bought a home. This move was made possible by Arizona State University when ASU's Parking and Transit Services offered me employment as the AM Lead Parking Enforcement Officer. I am now able to work and learn in the same place and I feel truly fortunate to have this opportunity.
With a great many years of experience in widely varied areas of endeavor, I have much to offer any prospective employer. I spent three years on active duty with the U.S. Army followed by over twenty years of service in the U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard. I entered the military as a private and progressed through the ranks ultimately attaining the rank of major.
In civilian life, I served as a police officer for over five years. After I left the police department, I owned and operated a commercial printing business for over fifteen years during which time I married and started a family. I have three adult children from that marriage.
Later I went to work for a community newspaper selling advertising at the national level. Over the course of several years, I worked for that same newspaper in a variety of roles: circulation manager, production manager, editor for both the printed and web editions, manager of the web site, and multimedia reporter. I left that job after the newspaper ceased operations following the death of the owner.
I returned to school to acquire skills marketable to a high technology society and expect to graduate with a B.S. in Software Engineering. Needless perhaps to say, I have a strong interest in computing and, in particular, writing code. Meanwhile, I continue to add to my present web and coding skills through online courses and through the pursuit of professional certifications. My ultimate educational goal is to obtain a M.S. in Software Engineering.
Because of my extensive experience, I already have a great many saleable skills. I have production management skills. I have sales and business skills. I am a leader and a motivator who sets high standards and moves a team to meet and then exceed goals. I am a competitor and I am driven to win.
I am building my education at ASU on the three years (94 semester units) I completed at the University of San Francisco where I studied Business Administration and Political Science. This education plus extensive military training forms a solid, broad foundation for my present educational efforts. I look forward to graduating from ASU and to entering the computer field as soon as possible.
You have probably noted that I am a Software Engineering major. I am actually at the beginning of that major having taken courses in Java. I have quite a bit more experience in web development and front-end web design having taken some six courses (18 upper division units) in UX, HTML/CSS, and Javascript. Even better, I have commercial experience building and maintaining newspaper web sites. I believe that this mix of front-end skill added to my Software Engineering education will make me a highly desirable candidate (at least, that's my hope) and I am excitedly waiting for the day when I will be able to secure employment in that area.
I am open to hearing of opportunities that may match my education, skills, and experience. I would be pleased to show you how my experience and education would make me an asset to your company. I can be contacted at (415) 505-10 three four.
Thank you.
