María del Mar Navarro is Associate Professor in The Design School at the Herberger Institute for Design, and Ph.D. Fellow at The University of Arizona. Ma. del Mar has taught visual communication design practice, research, history, and theory in higher education nationally and internationally for over a decade. Her research focuses on current and historical practices of data visualization and pictographic numeracy pre-nineteenth century, and the theoretical underpinnings of communicating with pictograms.
