Doug Sandy has been with ASU since fall, 2017. He comes to ASU following 24 years in the embedded computing, communications, and industrial computing industries. As a successful industry professional he has held positions in a variety of disciplines, including hardware, software and systems engineering and at a variety of levels from individual contributor, to Technical Fellow and Chief Technology Officer.
Sandy is a recognized industry figure and prolific innovator. As frequent speaker at industry forums, he recently presented challenges associated with cloud scalability at the Open Compute Summit to an audience that included participants from Facebook, Microsoft and other major cloud operators. Sandy is responsible for the creation of over 30 patents including: “Hardware description language (HDL) generation systems and methods for custom circuit boards”, “Method of quality of service based flow control within a distributed switch fabric network”, and “Method of transporting a RapidIO packet over an IP packet network.”
Sandy’s primary teaching and research interests include computer systems performability, structured machine architecture, and embedded systems engineering. In addition to teaching, Sandy remains active in the industry through engagement in standards organizations where he leading efforts in standardization of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) as the Chief Technology Officer of PICMG.
