Caleb McLaughlin began his position as a student researcher for the Delgado lab group under the Swette Center for Environmental Biotechnology in the Spring of 2021. In addition to this, Caleb is a member of the Student Leadership Council for the Center for Bio-mediated and Bio-inspired Geotechnics, which he partially receives funding from to continue his research. His experience so far includes research in microbial-chain elongation, microbial dechlorination and co-metabolism of chlorinated solvents, lignocellulosic analysis of bioreactors treating acid mine drainage, and microbial degradation of 6PPD and 6PPD-quinone.
Caleb McLaughlin graduated from Arizona State University (ASU) with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering in Spring 2022. He is currently on track to receive his master's degree in Civil, Environmental, and Sustainable Engineering from ASU in Spring 2024.
Caleb McLaughlin is a member of both the Outreach Committee and Student Leadership Council for the Center for Bio-mediated and Bio-inspired Geotechnics (CBBG). The Outreach Committee is dedicated to reaching out to local communities and student groups about the possibilities of bio/geotechnology and the developments of CBGG. In addition to this, the Outreach Committee reaches out to new members of CBBG to get involved in the center as well as center activities and engagement. Apart from this, the Student Leadership Council is a group of students who help organize and plan CBBG events (e.g. outreach events to local schools and communities, center retreats).
