Diana Jimenez-Young is a first generation Mexican-American very much rooted in her traditional Latina culture. She prides herself in being bilingual in Spanish and English and being bicultural.
A proud graduate of Sunnyside High School in Tucson, she attended the University of Arizona and graduated with a bachelor's degree in family studies and received a master's degree in social work from the Arizona State University. She is a credentialed preventionists in the state of Arizona and holds certification from the Arizona Department of Education for School Social Work.
Jimenez-Young worked in social services arena for a consecutive 24 years. Twenty-one years were spent in the field of prevention working with teen parents, children, families, youth and in community mobilization and development.
She was employed Child & Family Resources, Inc. since 1996, as a program director and developer for a community and youth leadership development program Youth Empowered for Success (YES). Upon leaving the non-profit sector Diana launched her own independent consulting practice, DJY Consulting.
Jimenez-Young is a master trainer in the area of suicide intervention and prevention using the curriculums of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), safeTALK and QPR since 2006. She is also licensed by LivingWorks Education as a suicide preventionist.
Diana has facilitated various trainings in the areas of Resilience, Community Development, Cultural Competency, Positive Youth Development, Youth/Adult Partnerships, Importance of connectedness, team building, leadership, group facilitation, and core foundations for prevention.
Jimenez-Young has been involved in the past in the political arena of grassroots campaigning for local politicians such as Congressman Raúl Grijalva (MSW intern), City Councilwoman (now City of Tucson Mayor) Regina Romero, and has assisted in Campaigns for County Supervisor Richard Elias and Governor Janet Napolitano.
She has served on various boards and commissions including The Adelante Nuestro Futuro Latina Conference Board, The Sunnyside Unified School District Foundation, the Sunnyside Unified School District Digital Promise Core team, the Metropolitan Education Commission, the Pima County Tucson Women’s Commission, the Pima County Trial Court Appointment Commission, the Pima County Cesar Chavez Youth Coalition and the City of Tucson Civil Service Commission.
