Dr. Tina Jiwatram-Negron is an associate professor in the School of Social Work and faculty of the Office of Gender-Based Violence (OGBV) in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University. She is also a Faculty Research Affiliate at the ASU Southwest Interdisciplinary Research Center and Global Center for Applied Health Research as well as a Senior Global Futures Scholar at the Julie Ann Wrigley Futures Laboratory. External to ASU, Dr. Jiwatram-Negron serves on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence (ACESDV), and as a Member on the CSWE Council on the Role and Status of Women in Social Work Education.
Dr. Jiwatram-Negron earned her PhD in social work from Columbia University, and was a National Institutes of Drug Abuse (NIDA)-funded T32 predoctoral fellow through the Behavioral Sciences Training Program in New York. Prior to joining the faculty at ASU, Dr. Jiwatram-Negron completed a postdoctoral research training fellowship at the University of Michigan.
Drawing on the syndemics framework and grounded in intersectionality and socio-ecological theories, Dr. Jiwatram-Negron’s research focuses on examining intimate partner violence (IPV) and gender-based violence (GBV) and the constellation of health and mental health risks associated with IPV/GBV. In partnership with community-based organizations in the U.S. and internationally, Dr. Jiwatram-Negron also aims to reduce and eliminate disparities through the co-development of trauma-informed intervention solutions to identify and address IPV/GBV and co-occurring risks.
