Abhinav Acharya is an assistant professor of chemical engineering and an ImmunoEngineer who works at the interface of immune system and engineering. He has two approaches to research – (a) utilizing materials to modulate the immune system function as a whole and (b) utilizing the tools of the immune system to modulate an organ at the molecular scale for inducing overall favorable health outcomes.
In his lab in the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy, Acharya utilizes techniques such as chemical synthesis to generate novel materials, isolation of immune cells for in vitro studies, specialized in vivo animal models, patient derived tissue samples, isolation and identification of biomarkers of diseases, and isolation and identification of natural therapeutics from cells. Moreover, Acharya collaborates heavily with physicians and physician-scientists to develop translational technologies.
