Long Bio
Dr. David Burel is a Clinical Associate Professor and Faculty Head of Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication (IHC) in the School of Applied Science and Arts (SASA). He researches the intersection of technology and tourism related to the history of the automobile in American culture. His first book project is titled “From Rolling Bungalows to Mobile Mansions: The Origins of America’s Obsession with the Recreational Vehicle.” His second book project, "From Jeep to Canyonero," studies the ascendancy of the Sports Utility Vehicle in the American automobile market. His research also includes the study of the concept of the home of the future, smart home technology, and environmental architecture.
As faculty head, Dr. Burel oversees the curriculum in IHC/SASA, including Science, Technology, and Society (STS); history; history of science, technology, and innovation; English; interdisciplinary studies; and liberal studies. He develops courses for the SASA at the Polytechnic Campus, including the HST-280 History of Science, Technology, and Innovation, HST-382: the History of the Automobile & the History of Energy Systems, and MVS-402 Technology and Warfare.
Dr. Burel is the President-Elect for the Polytechnics Campus for AY 24/25. He has previously served as a University Senator, chair of the Senate Committee on Committees, and as the CISA College Assemble Council President for AY 22/23.
