Alyssa was a first-generation college student that began her college journey at Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC). Alyssa graduated from EMCC in 2019, with an Associate in Arts, Associate in General Studies, and a Certificate of Completion in Chican@ Studies. During her time at EMCC, Alyssa was a member of the Honors Program as well as Phi Theta Kappa. After EMCC She transferred to Arizona State University and completed a Bachelor of Arts in Education with an emphasis in English. During her time at ASU, Alyssa was a part of the Barrett’s Honors College completed her thesis: Daoism as the Journey and Process of Learning. Currently, she is working on her Masters in Business Administration at University of Arizona.
Alyssa is currently an Academic Success Advisor for Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation. She advises for the: Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and Elementary Multilingual Education programs at ASU. She is also a lead in multiple committees, including Culture Committee and New Student Orientation Committee. Culture Committee focuses on hosting events for staff to bond and build a strong team culture across departments. New Student Orientation consists of hosting Zoom and in-person events for incoming freshmen to learn about their resources and support staff at ASU.
Prior to ASU, Alyssa was a Workforce Coordinator working in The Center for Workforce and Experiential Learning at Estrella Mountain Community College. Alyssa aided in the management of: Kids College, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and Workforce Development programs. As an EMCC Alumna, she was excited to continue working with her community and particularly loved the fun summers when kiddos got to come to campus.
Before EMCC, Alyssa worked for the Be A Leader Foundation and the Meta Network as a College Access Coordinator to help high school students meet their post-secondary education goals. Prior BALF, Alyssa worked with AmeriCorps to implement and facilitate a summer STEM program to prevent summer learning loss at the local Boys and Girls Club (BGC). After working with AmeriCorps, Alyssa worked to create events with the local BGC and local community college to teach students about financial aid, available programs, and local resources.
During her free time, Alyssa enjoys painting and watching Netflix. She also enjoys spending time with her dog by sitting on the porch and drinking coffee.
