Zithlaly Vega is a graduate student pursuing a Master’s in Passing and a Ph.D. in Anthropology within the School of Human Evolution and Social Change at ASU. Zithlaly’s past experience working in NAGPRA has shaped her approach to archaeology, ensuring that meaningful collaboration with descendant communities is at the forefront of all archaeological research. Her research interests include shell acquisition and exchange within the U.S. Southwest and Mexican Northwest, specifically within Arizona and Sonora, as well as the use of ethnographic research to incorporate women’s perspectives within the archaeological record. Her roots in Arizona and Northwest Mexico (Sonora and Sinaloa) have inspired additional research interests in identity and “frontier zones” within the US-Mexican borderlands region.
