Yunro (Roy) Chung

Dr. Chung joined Arizona State University in 2018 as an Assistant Professor with a joint appointment in the College of Health Solutions and the Biodesign Center for Personalized Diagnostics. He was trained as a biostatistician and has extensive experience in collaborative research and developing statistical methods for clinical trials, laboratory experiments, and epidemiological studies.

He received his bachelor's and master’s degrees in Statistics in 2006 and 2008 from Chung-Ang University, Seoul, South Korea and worked as a biostatistician at the Korea Food and Drug Administration. He then moved to the US in 2009 to pursue his PhD in Biostatistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During his PhD, he worked as a summer intern at Novartis Oncology in Florham Park, NJ in 2012 and SAS Institute in Cary, NC in 2015. He obtained his PhD in 2016, and he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, WA from 2016 to 2018.

His research interests lie in the development and applications of statistical methods for early detection of diseases. As the lead biostatistician in the Biodesign Center for Personalized Diagnostics, he has provided his statistical expertise to a variety of their biomarker discovery projects, including a $14.9M subcontract from the Leidos Biomedical Research on behalf of the National Cancer Institute and a $4.5M contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. His statistical methodological research isotonic regression, survival analysis, statistical methods for diagnostic medicine.
