William Jesse Weins is a teaching professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University. Before teaching, Weins first worked in juvenile case management and later practiced law in criminal defense and constitutional litigation.
Weins earned a juris doctor degree in 2007 from the University of Nebraska (UNL) and a master's degree in 2014 from Wilmington University. At UNL, Weins served as an executive editor of the Nebraska Law Review and a symposium issue editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy. He was a tenured associate professor and an academic dean at Dakota Wesleyan University. In 2018, Weins received a U.S. Fulbright specialist post at the Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law in Bhutan. He joined ASU in 2019.
Weins' scholarship on criminal law and court precedent has appeared in more than a dozen publications and has been referenced by several state and federal courts. He has served as a referee for the Yale Law Journal and is an editorial board member of Contemporary Justice Review. He has been interviewed by CBS and NBC/Fox affiliates, as well as The Huffington Post, the Christian Science Monitor, and The New York Times.
