Dr. Ying Sun received her M.A. in Economics in 2003 and her Ph.D. in Economics majoring in Finance in 2007, both from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB); and received her EMBA degree from Jack Welch Management Institute in 2016. With over 16 years of experience in teaching Economics and Finance, Ying always emphasizes the classroom engagement and learning experience enhancement to all of her students.
Ying serves as Director of Office of Evaluation and Educational Effectiveness (UOEEE) at the Provost’s office of Arizona State University (ASU). Ying brings extensive experience in curricular mapping, accreditation, program review and evaluation, and institutional research. Most recently, she led curricular evaluation for ASU’s EdPlus (ASU Online), supported online course and program design, accreditation alignment, assessment processes, and regulatory compliance. Ying also collaborated with colleges at ASU, such as College of Health Solutions, to establish assessment framework and supervise program alignment and superstructure projects.
Ying currently serves as a peer reviewer in the Peer Corps for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). She has chaired 15 international site visit teams in 10 different countries and mentored the accreditation processes for institutions internationally.
Prior to joining ASU, Ying served as Dean of Instructional Excellence at School of Health Service Administration at University of Phoenix and worked at Strayer University as Campus Dean and Dean of Curriculum when she had oversight of all of the five graduate business programs including 88 courses in 10 different disciplines for supervising academic content development, accreditation requirements, Student Learning Outcome assessment, competitive landscape analytics and industry environment identification in each discipline when she gained the experience collaborating with different teams through the organization including Strategic Planning, Institutional Research, Students Learning Assessment, Faculty Credentialing, Faculty Affairs, Student Affairs and Instructional Design. She also led the research and development of the Competency Based Learning (CBL) program and the fast track MBA program.
Ying is a productivity and results focused academic leader dedicated to high standards of academic rigor, strong student support, and excellence in the instructional experience; passionate promoter of adult learners’ engagement and success by developing most related course content and curriculum development; and successful coach who enjoys motivating highly skilled team members to achieve their fullest potential.
Before coming to the U.S. from China, Ying was an anchorwoman at a famous radio station in China and gained multi-national industrial experience. She has hosted many large events for the Chinese community in the U.S. such as Spring of Phoenix Chinese New Year Shows, etc. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing piano, Guzheng, xylophone, singing, and dancing.
