Dr. Ying Sun holds an M.A. in Economics (2003) and a Ph.D. in Economics with a Finance specialization (2007), both from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), as well as an EMBA from the Jack Welch Management Institute (2016). With over 23 years of experience teaching Economics and Finance, she prioritizes classroom engagement and enhancing the learning experience for her students.
As Director of Accreditation in the Provost’s Office at Arizona State University (ASU), Ying leverages her expertise in curricular mapping, accreditation, program review, and institutional research. Since joining ASU in 2019, she has served as Director at the University Office of Evaluation and Educational Effectiveness (UOEEE) and as Executive Director for Program Evaluation at EdPlus (ASU Online). In these roles, she has led different initiatives and projects in curricular evaluation, program design and enhancement, accreditation, assessment, and regulatory compliance.
Ying serves as a Peer Reviewer and Chair for multiple accrediting bodies, including the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), and the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). She has chaired 19 international site visit teams across 15 countries for ACBSP and mentored institutions worldwide through their accreditation processes.
Before ASU, Ying was Dean of Instructional Excellence at the University of Phoenix’s School of Health Service Administration and held leadership roles at Strayer University, including Campus Dean and Dean of Curriculum. There, she oversaw five graduate business programs (comprising 88 courses across 10 disciplines), ensuring academic rigor, accreditation compliance, and student learning outcomes. She collaborated cross-functionally with teams in Strategic Planning, Institutional Research, Faculty Affairs, and Instructional Design, while also spearheading the development of Strayer’s Competency-Based Learning (CBL) and Fast-Track MBA programs.
Ying is a results-driven academic leader committed to excellence in education, student success, and faculty development. She champions adult learner engagement through innovative curriculum design and thrives as a mentor, empowering teams to reach their highest potential.
Ying was born and raised in China. She worked as a radio anchorwoman and gained multinational industry experience prior to coming to the U.S. in 2002 for her graduate studies. In the U.S., she has hosted many major cultural events, such as U.S. Southwestern Chinese Students and Scholars Association Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration and New Year's Shows, "Love Changes Everything Music Concert", Spring of Phoenix Chinese New Year Shows, Arizona National Day/Mid-Autumn Celebrations, etc.. Outside work, she enjoys family time, music (piano, guzheng, xylophone), singing, and dancing.
