Rob Walton Col Global Futures
My interest in conservation is rooted in a deep appreciation for the intrinsic value of natural systems and a sense of responsibility to preserve them for future generations. What began as a pre-health path toward dentistry evolved into a broader scientific pursuit: understanding the environmental processes that sustain ecosystems and translating that understanding into practical, real-world applications.
I am currently a Ph.D. student in the Ocean Futures program at Arizona State University, where I study nitrogen cycling in hydrothermal vent systems. My research focuses on how microbial processes operating under extreme conditions drive nutrient transformations and influence broader ocean biogeochemistry. This work incorporates microbiology, chemistry, and geology, and has provided me with a strong foundation in laboratory analysis, data-driven research, and collaborative scientific work.
