Francisco Soriano

Francisco Soriano is a graduate student at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where he is developing his skills in reporting, writing, photography and digital storytelling.

A former social worker and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Soriano brings a human-centered perspective to journalism, with interests in public health, veterans’ affairs, mental health, social issues and communities. His background working with people navigating trauma, mental health challenges and complex social systems informs his approach to reporting—listening carefully, asking difficult questions and examining how institutions and larger social forces affect people’s everyday lives. 

Having lived and traveled across Latin America and Asia, he is also interested in stories that cross cultures and communities. His work focuses on making complex issues understandable while keeping the experiences of the people most affected at the center of the story.
