Dr. Ayan Mallik joined Arizona State University as an Assistant Professor in August 2019. Dr. Mallik received his bachelor’s degree (B.Tech) in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India in 2014. He received his Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2018. Dr. Mallik’s research interests include the design, control and multi-objective optimization of power electronic converters, highly efficient and high-density power conversion solutions in the applications of more-electric-aircrafts, electric vehicles, renewables, wireless charging and data centers. Dr. Mallik is an author/coauthor of over 80 peer-reviewed publications and 4 issued/pending US Patents. He worked on research, development and testing of regulated transformer rectifier units for more-electric-aircrafts, integrated bidirectional onboard charger design for electric vehicles, high density DC-DC conversion for data centers, among many other projects.
Mallik is the recipient of various awards and recognitions, including National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award (2023), first place in Help Others ProgrammE (HOPE) competition organized by IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES), first place in Dean's Doctoral Dissertation award competition at UMD (2019), ECE distinguished dissertation award at UMD (2019), University of Maryland's (UMD) Invention of the Year award (2018), Jimmy H.C. Lin invention award (2018), and third place in Allegheny Region Cleantech University Prize Collegiate Competition (2017) sponsored by DOE, among many others. Dr. Mallik, a senior member of IEEE, also serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, and IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics (JESTPE).

- Extreme-environment Wide Bandgap (WBG) Radiation Tolerant Power Electronics for Space Applications.
- Multiport multidirectional power conversion (M2PC) for grid-storage-renewables integration
- Electromagnetic interference (EMI) modeling, estimation, and mitigation through high-precision parasitic estimation methodologies and active filtering approaches.
- High-density wide bandgap semiconductor based high-performance DC-DC power conversion (400V-48V, 400V-12V, 48V-1V) for next generation data centers and point-of-load (PoL) applications.
- High-efficiency high-density wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor based On-Board Chargers for Electric Vehicles with Reduced Charging Time.
- Analyses of the Effects on the Battery Life under V2G Operation – Bidirectional Onboard Chargers for Electric Vehicles.
- Machine learning/Statistical learning-based design optimization study of power electronics – both component level and system level.
- Cyber-resiliency of EV charging networks : Real time intelligent data processing algorithm-enabled cyber-threat detection and mitigation approach.
