Ann Ching is a Clinical Professor of Law at Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. Prior to this appointment, she served as Ethics Counsel for the State Bar of Arizona and Assistant Professor of Law at Pepperdine University.
Professor Ching began her legal career in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where she achieved the rank of Major and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for her combat service in Iraq and the Humanitarian Service Medal for disaster relief operations in Japan. She continues to serve the military and veterans community as a Fellow and board member of the National Institute of Military Justice; as a judge pro tempore for the East Valley Regional Veterans Court; and as an ombudsman for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
Professor Ching has served on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Asian American Bar Association (2018-2025) and as its President (2023-2024). She is also a member of the State Bar of Arizona and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA). Professor Ching is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Arizona, U.S. District Court, District of Arizona, Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.
Professor Ching is Chair of the Arizona Supreme Court Ethics Advisory Committee and a member of the State Bar of Arizona Ethics Advisory Group. She frequently speaks and writes about ethics, legal writing, and appellate practice. She has recently published two books: Contemporary Appellate Advocacy (Carolina Academic Press 2025) and Navigating Federal and State Appellate Practice (Matthew Bender 2026).
Professor Ching earned her B.A. from the University of Arizona, J.D. from the University of North Carolina, LL.M. from the Judge Advocate General’s School of the Army, and M.B.A. from Pepperdine Graziadio Business School.
