Dan Gruber is the Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning and Clinical Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship at the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.
Dan began his appointment on July 1, 2019, and provides leadership for the ongoing improvement and enhancement of faculty teaching and student learning innovation throughout the W. P. Carey School’s curricula.
Dan chairs the W. P. Carey School of Business Council of Teaching Leads, which includes faculty from each of the academic units and serves on the Administrative Council for the School with the Dean, fellow Associate Deans, Academic Chairs, and other Senior Leaders.
Dan is a Champion of the school's strategic initiative for Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality (AR/VR) and one of two W. P. Carey College Catalysts for Principled Innovation, ASU's newest design aspiration.
Dan is a Campaign Co-Chair in the W. P. Carey School for the ASU United Way campaign and is the Committee Chair in W. P. Carey for ASU Open Door. Dan completed the 2020-2021 Leadership Academy Program at Arizona State University.
Dan served on the W. P. Carey Dean Search Committee in 2021 and was a member of the steering committee for the W. P. Carey strategic planning process in 2022. Dan is a member of the Inclusive Excellence Committee and partnered with ASU’s Center for the Study of Race and Democracy to launch a lunch and learn series in the spring 2021 semester.
Dan presented at the AACSB Associate Deans Conferences in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. Dan co-organized a group that presented a keynote session for the 2022 AACSB Innovative Curriculum Conference. He is a Co-Founder of the global Teaching and Learning Leaders Alliance and served on the Virtual Component Team for the 2020 Academy of Management Conference.
Dan’s research on managing unexpected events and organizational resilience has been published in several peer-reviewed journals including Organization Science and Academy of Management Annals. His teaching is at the intersection of strategic management, organizational change and communication.
Before joining Arizona State University, Dan was the Associate Dean of Innovation and New Ventures and a Professor-Educator in the department of management at the Carl H. Lindner College of Business at the University of Cincinnati. Dan’s position focused on developing and implementing new innovations in pedagogy and curriculum design, technology, and the overall Lindner student experience.
Prior to serving as Associate Dean at the University of Cincinnati, Dan was a faculty member for eight years at both the Medill School of Journalism and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. At Northwestern, Dan Co-Created an ‘Innovation in Teaching Series’ with the Provost’s Office and The Garage, the University’s space for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Dan has won teaching awards at the University of Michigan as a doctoral student and Northwestern University as a faculty member, as well as grants for creating teaching innovations and piloting teaching technologies.
