Miyeko Mana is an assistant professor in the School of Life Sciences. Honing in on the intersection of stem cells, diet, and cancer, Dr. Mana's research focuses on how various diets, ranging from high-fat to calorie restriction, induce stem cell responses that allow interrogation of cellular metabolism and transcriptional adaptation. These perturbations are used to assess the vulnerabilities that can lead to transformations resulting in tumor initiation or protection thereof. Her research employs genetically engineered mouse models, mouse and human organoids, and human pluripotent stem cell-derived colon organoids. She has received multiple awards, including the Arizona Biomedical Research Centre New Investigator Award, American Cancer Society Research Scholar Fellowship, National Science Foundation East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes Fellow, and the National Institutes of Health Developmental Genetics Training Award. At ASU, Dr. Mana teaches Cell Biology (BIO353) and Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology (BIO494; BIO/MCB/NEU598)
